After a weekend of sunshine and Monday marking the hottest day of the year, it's no surprise that thousands of Brits flocked to the seaside to soak up the August sun. However, the warm and sunny conditions enjoyed over the past few days are expected to give way to rain, wind, and clouds across the UK.
This change follows a scorching 34.8°C recorded in Cambridge, prompting the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) to issue a yellow heat health alert for London and the south and east of England.
Speaking to The Independent, Tom Morgan, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said that those hoping for a hot second half of August are likely to be disappointed by the upcoming shift in weather.
"Short answer is no, the hot weather is not going to continue," he explained. "The heat will primarily be confined to the far east of England, and temperatures won’t be as high as what we've seen today."
